November is the perfect moment to review your skin's needs as it pertains to cosmetics especially with the upcoming camera-ready holiday season. I previously covered best practices with the double cleanse pertaining to cleansing products and suggestions for all phases of menopause, so I thought it was time to discuss ready-to-wear makeup.
There is a balance that comes with your skincare and your makeup that will assist in a glowing radiant complexion. One of my most popular beauty tips where I am quoted in several media outlets including WebMd The Magazine is "Trust your foundation to be the last step in your skincare regimen instead of the first step in your makeup application."
Foundation in all of its skin nurturing formulas, i.e., tinted moisturizer, BB cream, CC cream, light coverage, medium or full coverage is vital to protecting your skin from the seasonal elements as well as it being the hybrid to which all makeup is applied. It is not to cover but to enhance, brighten and provide a flawless glow with so many beneficial anti-aging ingredients. If applied properly with a foundation brush and/or beauty blender your skin should be seamless and ready for cosmetics. I highly recommend liquid foundation formulas in lieu of powder. But, first, color correction, especially for menopausal skin.
A color corrector/primer before applying your foundation is non-negotiable. I know we are very busy women and to think about adding another product or additional step to our plethora of products may be daunting, but this will make the difference in how your skin looks and foundation sets. Why? Green neutralizes redness and is ideal for rosacea which is very common in menopausal skin; lavender balances and brightens; and peach/apricot cancels out purple under eye issues and corrects dark circles. All together this is the ultimate cocktail to achieve complete complexion perfection.
My favorite easy to apply color corrector for all skin tones is Stila's "One Step." As easy as its name, applied with a brush, your skin will be boosted, primed and ready for foundation, whatever formula you choose.
You will immediately notice the difference as this product...
"Primes, color-corrects, brightens, and nourishes skin for a flawless face with no fuss; transparent, priming perfector creates a radiant canvas for your makeup; helps reduce imperfections and improve skin texture; hydrates, balances, and nourishes the skin; contains 3 color-correcting pigments to even out complexion."
You and your skin will be red carpet and photo-ready this holiday. Let me know if you try the color correction before applying your foundation and how you like it.
